When we heard the news, we all sighed. This past weekend a blizzard was coming our way, and when it was finally over, we would have a new blanket of over 16 inches of fluffy snow. Oh, geez, there went our plans to finish the greenhouse, finish the chicken coop, move the chickens in, transfer the seedlings from the indoor grow shelves to the greenhouse... and on and on. We had been overly ambitious. Spring is a time of busyness (and business, ha ha!), and after the quiet solitude of winter, we are ready to be BUSY!
Ah well, those plans will have to wait. And instead, there was only one thing to do... go snowshoeing! My mom came to visit (because snow is not so pretty in the city where she lives, but it's beautiful out in the country where it blankets everything in a quiet hush). We donned our snowshoes and set out through our woods. It was simply gorgeous. Every branch, every bush, was covered in crystalline snowflakes, and the
quiet in the woods is so profound that if you stand quietly, almost not even breathing, and listen, you can actually hear each snowflake falling. It's marvelous!!
The dogs all came with us, too, and got a good workout, tromping through all that snow. It reminded us how good it feels to be outdoors and breathe in all that crisp air,
revel in what will probably (hopefully?) be the last snowfall of the year (and trust me, by the end of August, after endless mosquito bites and nights spent wishing for even the faintest of breezes, we will once again be dreaming of snow).
And of course, it all reminds me of the simple continuation of life and how sometimes
it's just best to flow with the current, let life take us where it will, and enjoy each moment of each journey. Because each experience will end, and new ones begin, and we may never get to where we thought we were going (and isn't that sometimes a blessing in disguise!). Life is a journey of small steps that lead to great heights. Enjoy each one as much as you can.... they rarely last as long as we think they will....
